Producer's Notes

with

Mark Bryant

This presentation of Producer's Notes is an introduction of things to come. The idea was given to me by my good friend, Sharon V., who on several occasions has tried to convince me that folks would have an interest in, and be entertained by, some of my thoughts and ideas regarding sound production. Eventually other folks had similar requests! As a result, I thought I might give it a go and perhaps inspire aspiring producers and engineers or teach them some tricks of the trade.

These thoughts will not be just about my own projects, but about projects released by other producers, too – in categories of the well known and the not-so-very well known. I will also be featuring a segment called Ask the Producer, where visitors can e-mail me questions regarding engineering, production and the music business in general. On the occasions I don't have the answer myself, I'll query other industry professionals and credit their input.

Hit or Miss will be a feature highlighting songs that have been sent to me for review, or songs that I think deserve comment. Not only will you be able to read my reviews, but you'll also be able to hear the tune for yourself!

As with any great question-and-answer series, I first need questions. Below are two tabs; click and you'll be linked to a questionnaire and a place to submit your music for review. Be aware that I won't reveal my opinions in advance to anyone sending me their work. If your music deserves a recognition "Hit," I'll be sharing my great reviews with the world. If I find the music or production lacking in any way and is a "Miss," I'll share my thoughts as well. My intention is to offer a candid, professional assessment -- something a musician can learn from, this won't be an exercise in insult humor.

I'm looking forward to getting down to business with this new page and sharing some of these exciting entries with all of you. Until then, keep the questions pertinent and the music worthy, and I'll be back in a few weeks with my first installment!
