Lonesome Jukebox - Another Round

    The second release from Plymouth, Mass.-based Lonesome Jukebox is a mix of rockabilly and traditional country.
The influence of fifties' era pioneers is most evident. Vocalist A.J. Johnson recalls the sound of Eddie Cochran on "Back Up", while "You Decide Honey" is stylistically reminiscent of Carl Perkins. Elsewhere "Wicked Sinful Ways" is an homage to Johnny Cash, and "Moth To A Flame" has the harder edge of the Blasters or X. The band is equally at ease with country. "Have Another Drink On Me" is a traditional honky-tonk weeper, while "Lucinda" is a pure country love ballad inspired by Lucinda Williams.
    Though most songs were written by band members, there are a few effective covers. Hank Thompson's "A Six Pack To Go" and Marty Robbins' "Cigarettes and Coffee Blues" are well presented here, as is the rocking live version of Willie Dixon's "You Can't Judge A Book" that closes the disc.
    The highlight is an acoustic version of "She Thinks I Still Care" featuring an inspired vocal from guitarist Nathan Johnson.
With a stash of fine tunes and stellar musicianship Lonesome Jukebox delivers a pleasant collection of rockabilly and honky-tonk.
